BETTING TAX.

TICKET ISSUE SYSTEM. (Received 1.10 p.m.) LONDON, June 14. The Betting Tax Committee listened to an expert witness from the Customs Board to explain the scheme for collecting the betting tax. It was proposed under the scheme to issue tickets at sixpence, one shilling, five shillings and ten shillings,, which would be punched at post offices. Bookmakers would be required ito deface each, jpreventing a stamped ticket being used •again. This would be done by a bell punch similar -to that used by tram conductors. The Chairman-; "Would the punch be possible in a great rush before a race?" Witness: "There is bound to be inconvenience 111 the collecting of all taxes. When a bookmaker is supplied with every kind of ticket there should not be any difficulty."—A. and N.Z.
