MAUNGATUROTO.
RAPID DEVELOPMENT.
The Maungaturoto railway station is destined it-, the near future to be one of the largest stations north of Auckland. The Department's plans provide for the expenditure of £14,000 on new work there. Ten new cottages are to be erected for th e permanent staff, of which six are being commenced immediately. A turntable is now at the station awaiting installation. Tom- ! porary additions have been made to the present station buildings to servo the purpose of refreshment rooms*- but a- permanent building to seat 200 passengers is on the list of new works. THROUGH MAIL SERVICE. Although there is now through railway connection between Auckland and Whangarei, mails from intermediate centres such as Maungaturoto for Whangarei still go via Auckland. It is understood that th e Post and Telegraph Department is now considering the necessary arrangements to enable such mails to go by the direct route. TENNIS. The Maungaturoto Tennis Club played an enjoyable return match against Ivaiwaka on the latter's courts last Saturday. After an interesting series of games, Maungaturoto were the winners by one set.
