WHANGAREI COUNTY FINANCE.

CREDIT BALANCES RESTRICTED,

The treasurer's financial report submitted by Mr H. C. Hemphill to the Whangarei County Council yesterday showed that the 1 General Fund Account had a credit of £134!) 3s -d, that the Loan Fund Account was in credit to the extent of £2305 18s 7d, and that a war bond for £500 was due on April 15 next. LOAN ACCOUNTS. An analysis of the loan accounts showed credit balances as follows: — Manaia, £414 15s, with £16 7s 3d reserved foij interest; Mangakahia, £1640 13s; Mangakahia Workers' Dwellings, £2 Gs; Hokianga Loan: Haha bridge, No. 4, £75; Optouteke bridge, No. 5, £10; Haha Road, £60 and. Opouteke Road, £13 0s 6d; Pipiwai, £41 13s lOd, with £1 16s 4d reserved for interest; Mangapai Caves, £32 12s 8; making a total of SG3OS 18s 7d. THIRDS AND HALVES. The Thirds Accounts in credit were: —Hikurangi £2 12s 2d, Kiripaka £76 10s, Maunu £40 16s Bd, Mangakahia £402 13s 2d, Mangapai £132 8s lid, Manaia £10 12s Id, Wairua £27 10s 3d, Otonga nil, and Waipu a debit of £10 5s Bd, making the total credit £682 17s 7d. Mangakahia has a credit of £85 10s 6d in the halves account, MAIN ROADS EXPENDITURE. An analysis of the Main Rk)ads expenditure of £3701 for the year showed that £1490 5s lOd had been spent on the North, £1171 13s 3d on the South, and £1039 0s lid on the West mai l roads. Of the estimated expenditure lof £4000, there remained available | £299.

RIDING EXPENDITURE SO FAR, Amounts expended by the several ridings from April 1, 1922, to March 9, 1923, are as under:—Hikurangi, £1.147 15s lOd; Kiripaka, £895 14s 2d; Maunu, £1243 7s Id; Mangakahia, £640 17s 6d; Mangapai, £2491 Is sd<; Manaia, £921 16s; Wairua, £1096 13s; Otonga, £1131 9s 6d; and Waipu, £1493 5s Id; making a total of £11,051 19s (3d. Miscellaneous credits had been received to date by the various ridings as follows:—Hikurangi, iB7 16s 3d; Kiripaka, £119 12s lOd; Maiuu., £:') Cs; Mangakahia, £29 12s; Mangapai, £905. 6s 7d; Manaia, £396 19s 9d; Waijyji,.: £189- Is 2d; Otonga, £215 Is Id; and Waipu, £390 8s Bd.

WHAT IS LEFT TO SPEND. Taking the above figures into account and considering the estimates of expenditure for the year, which under the new legislation cannot be exceeded at all, the balances available to the ridings for expenditure and to meet commitments by March 31 are as follows: —Hikurangi £188 14s, Kiripaka £360 4s 9d, Maunu £417 7s 9d, Mangakahia 7s, Mangapai £820 14s 4d, Wairua £471 12s Id, Otonga £158 2s -f?«l and Waipu £720 3s 2d; while Manaia shows a debit balance of £91 lis Bd. The total amount expended in anticipation of Government grants amounted to £5202 Is 2d.
