Sir William Bird's Bill to amend merchandise marks prohibits the importation of meat >mless it is indelibly marked with the name of the country of origin or bears the word '' imported." The import of eggs is also banned unless each is marked; also packages containing fruit, poultry and dairy produce.—A. and N.Z.
Sir William Bird, jl retired solicitor, and now a director oil big commercial and industrial concerns, includ- x ing large colliery business, was elected to the House of Commons in 1921, representing the .Chichester diviison of West Sussex. He is a great traveller, and has shot big game in Nepal, East Africa and the Sudan.
