TRANSVAAL MATCH. CAPETOWN, December 17. The English team commenced a match against the Transvaal at Johannesburg to-day. The weather was fine and the wicket fast. England in the first innings made 240, individual scores being:—Russell 4, Sandham 75, Woolley 7<>, Mead 2, Brown 3, Carr 34, Jupp 1, Fender 0, Mann 15, Stevens 20, Kennedy not' out 0. There were 10 extras. Nupen took five wickets for 76 runs, Dixon two for 38, and Duff two for 56. Transvaal have scorcd 24 runs without loss. —A. and N.Z.
TALL SCORING. NEW SOUTH WALES BATSMEN. ADELAIDE, This Day. New South Wales, having won the toss, elected to bat first in the match versus South Australia and scored 486, of which Ivippax compiled 159, Hendry 146, Oldfield 118, and Mailcy 38 not out.
