MERSEY DISASTER.

ANCHOR CHAIN FOULED TEN SAILORS DROWNED (Received 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 18. The steamer Smcrdis fouled the anchor chain of ithe City of London in the Mersey. The chain tore a great hole in the Smerdis, which sank in two minutes. Ten out of the crew of 18 were drowned, some below never reaching the deck. —A. and N.Z.
