Mr. J. S. Dent, J.P., who supervised the official count of the votes in the Marsden election and licensing poll, speaks very highly of the work done, by the Eeturning Officcr, Mr. F. Bird. Mr. Dent says, that Mr. Bird treated everyone concerned in the counting with the utmost courtcsy and kindness, and discharged his onerous duties with marked efficiency, so that the task of supervising, though it-nfccessarily. occupied many hours, was made a very pleasant one.
