NGUNGURU
A WELCOME CHANGE
The promised and welcome rain has come at last. It was heralded by an ominous and vivid circle around the sun on Saturday, which lasted the greater part of the day, portending bad weather in a few days. The wind was from the north-west, veering to the eastward next day and gradually increasing„ in volume until Wednesday, when a furious gale raged. The river was white with breaking waves. Some rain fell, but it was very intermittent. It is very acceptable, but more is wanted. Gardens are dried up and tanks are empty. COUNTY MATTERS We were sorry to learn of the resignation of our County Council member, as with his leave of absence the riding has been much neglected. There is much to be done while the fine weather lasts. Our roads are in a very bad state, and something should be done at once. The beach road is impassable at high tice, and other works require attention. Th:; coming member will have to bestir himself to make up for lost time. PERSONAL Mrs Armitage and Mr and Mrs Rao arrived from Auckland on SaturdayMrs D. Clotworthy left with her family for Whangarei on Monday. Mr J. S. Wilson and family left on Saturday for Whangarei. Mr and Mrs L. Armitage left for Auckland on Tuesday . ' Mrs R. Douglas and Mrs Jones, who have been spending a week in Tutukaka, come over on Tuesday and will be the guests of Mrs Brown for a week.
