A NEW SOCIALISM.

AUSTRALIAN LABOUR PARTY'H OBJECTIVE.

The newly revised platform and constitution of the Australian Labour Party leaves no room for doubt as to what the extremists of the party have in view. The revision has been made in conformity with the decisions of the rocent inter-State conference of the party when the moderates were consistently overruled by the predominating extremists. The objective of the party now is as follows: — The socialisation of industry, production, distribution, and exchange. To bring this about the following methods are proposed:—(a) The constitutional utilisation of industrial and Parliamentary machinery; (b) the organisation of workers aiong the lines of industry; (c) nationalisation of banking and all principal industries; (d) the municipalisat'.cn j of such services as can best be operated in limited areas; (e) government of national industries by boards upon which the workers iu the industries and the community shall have representation; (f) the establishment of an elective supreme economic council by all nationalised industries; (g) the setting up of Labour research and Labour information bureaus and of Labour educational institutions, in which the workers shall be trained in the management of, the nationalised industries. Among other proposals the fighting platform of the party includes the cultivation of an Australian sentiment, the maintenance of a White Australia, and the development in Australia of an enlightened and self-reliant community. Imperial federation, however, is objected to. Unlimited legislative powers I for the Commonwealth Parliament is proposed, with such delegated power? to the States or provinces as the Commonwealth Parliament may determine from time to time. All incomes from personal exertion up to £200 are to be exempt from income tax, with a further deduction from the taxable income of £100 for a taxpayer's wife, and £60 for each child, and others wholly dependent on the taxpayer. As a final sweeping touch the platform proposes the abolition of the State Governors, and the Senate.
