CRICKET.

TEAM FROM WAIPU. EASILY DEFEATS WHANGAREI. On Saturday afternoon a team of cricketers from Waipu visited Whangarei and played a match on the High Schorl ground with a mixed Whangarei eleven. The Waipu club has not been active this season, but the presence in the district of two or three visitors who are playing senior cricket in Auckland encouraged the Waipu enthusiasts to emerge from their retirement. The visitors proved altogether too strong for tho local eleven, whose bowling was somewhat off colour, and an enjoyable game resulted in a rather easy win for Waipu by nine wickets. The bowling of Arblaster, a North Shore player of repute, proved very effective, while H. Wilson, of Grafton, also did good service with ball and bat. The principal contributor to Waipu's excellent total of 175 w r as a Ruakaka player. J. Sloane, •alio exhib : ted very sound defence and played ?ome fine scoring strokes. On the Whangarei side F. Murdoch gave a most exhilarating display with the bat, and his efforts were well seconded by ihe Onerahi stalwarts, E. Whimp and Mason, while Crickett and Murdoch got fair bowLng figures. One of the select-

od Whungorei players, W. H. Speer, was called away early in the day, and a substitute took his place in the first innings, but Speer arrived later and batted in the second innings.
