HERESY ALLEGATION.
EX-AUCKLAND CLERGYMAN COMMISSION APPOINTED (Received 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 30. The Bishop of Oxford has appointed a commission to inquire into allegations of heresy against the Rev. H. D. A. Major, formerly of New Zealand.—A. and N.Z. The Rev. H. D. A. Major is a New Zealander. He took his B.A. degree in New Zealand in 1895 and his M.A., with first class honours in geology, in 1890, and he was ordained in 1895 by the Bishop of Auckland and appointed curate of St. Mark's, Remuera. From there he went to Waitotara as vicar, and from 1900 to 1902 he was vicar of Hamilton. He went Home and had a distinguished career at Oxford, tak.ng B.A. in 1904 and a first class in theology the following year. He was rector of Copgrove, then vice-principal of Ripon Clergy College, and for the past two years he has been principal of Ripon Hall, Oxford. He is also cditcr of the "Modern Churchman," in .which, no doubt, he has expressed the views that have caused the Bishop of Oxford to take action.
