The only local plague development has been the capture of an infected rat on the wharf in the vicinity of previous captures, which has made the authorities growinglv hopeful that the present cordon will prove effective. —A. and N.Z. BARMAID SUCCUMBS. SECOND TOWNSVILLE DEATH. (Received 10.4:1 a.m.) BRISBANE, This Day. A second death from plague is reported at Townsville, the victim being a barmaid. Of 6S rats examined in Brisbane one was found to be infected. —A. and N.Z.
