KMPLOYKtt -VXD ttMPLOYEK TINTED. Employment of an old at loss than award rates' of wage* was the cause of a case at the YVhangrrei Courthouse on the 21st- inst., in which P. J. Xonvoo'J, inspector of awards, proceeded against AV. E. MoCutehenn, licensee of the Poroti Hotel, for breach of the award. A farther charge was relative i.o defendant not having kept a proper wap.es record book. The licensee, for whom Mr Harrison appeared, was lined £1 on each charge, with costs, while the old num. who had aetod as porter and had nroe-pted less than the award rite* was fined f>s and 10s costs. The Magistrate remarked that he had taken a lenient view of the ea>v, but this .should not be considered as ;■ precedent should other similar breaches occur.
