Referring to newspaper and other

protests against the non-appearance .of the Union Jack over the Sydney Town Hall the Lord Mayor stated that he was not the organiser of memorial services and those who

organised them are responsible -by

omitting to state that they desired flags to he flown. If they had asked

they would have been welcome to

have all the flags in the Town Hall hoisted. He added that he resented "the gross abuse of the citizens' hospitality shown, not by returned soldiers, but by persons endeavouring to use returned men for base political ends-—A- and N.Z.
