/Mr R. E. Howard, writing to the "Sportsman," expresses the opinion that J. m. Kirkwood will do very well at St. Andrew's, where the links, almost more than any in the -world, ought to suit the flat, flying-shot which Kirkwood prefers, both with wood and iron. His 73 at Coodenbeach astonished everybody, not by the result, but by unorthodoxy of style.—A. and N-Z.
BEDFORD BY-ELECTION. LONDON, April 25Mr F. G. Kelleway, oif his promotion to the office of Postmaster-Gene-ral, was re-elected for Bedford, the voting being: F. G. Kelleway (iCoaL Lib.) . 14,397 —. Riley (Lab.) 9,731 Majority 4,666 —A. and N-Z. At the general election Mr Kelleways majority was 6,837. A FORTUNATE GIRL. ' LONDON, April 14. "I knew my fiance was fairly wealthy, but I am astonished at his will," says Miss Maisie Major, the Lincolnshire girl who i s announced as receiving a fortune of £60,000, with "a ranch at Beachwood, Queensland," through the death of Captain Donald Bond, an Australian who served in the Royal Air Force. The girl met Captain ißond in 1918, when he was stationed- in Lincolnshire! and became engaged last August. The marriage was postponed in deference to her parents' wishes, until the coming summer, owing to her youth. 'Captain Bond succumbed three weeks ago to pneumonia, and willed everything to the girl. She states, 'My parents and myself intend going out to the ranch as soon as everything is fixed up," J
