CONTEMPT OF COURT

CHARGE AGAINST SOLICITOR

OBDURATE STAND TAKEN,

AUCKLAND, This Day,

Mr J. F. W. Dickson, barrister and solicitor, appeared before Mr Poynton, S.M., to-day on a complaint by Mr Poynton that on January 25, during the hearing of a civil tho defendant wilfully insulted the Magistrate

by using offensive, insulting and contemptuous words, and thereby was guilty of contcmpt of court.

Mr Dickson argued tl-at the Magistrate, by not dealing with the alleged offence at the time, has lost jurisdic* tion in the matter, and denied that he was guilty of wilful contempt.

Mr Poynton said he had adjourned the matter, as he hesitated to send Mr Dickson to prison or to impose a fine without giving him another opportunity to apologise.

Mr Dickson persisted in the stand he had taken up and Mr Poynton adjourned the ease for a week for further consideration. —Press Assn.
