Mr and Mrs F. Yates and family have returned from Whananaki, where bhey .spent iabout a fortnight's holiday, and report having had.an enjoyable time.
Messrs Edgar 'Bros. Juave taken possession of ifche farm recently acquired in our midst known as the top hall of Wilsworthy.
Miss and Master H.' Lewis have returned from a pleasant holiday spent in the far North visiting relatives and friends in th eiKaitaia and surrounding diistricts.
| Messrs Cecil Hamilton and GL've Lord have returned to Auckland after having spent a couple of weeks holiday vacation with relatives and friends here.
(Mrs Yates, West schoolmistress, and (Mass O'Connor, "East school mistress,'' resumed their dirties after th 6 Christmag vacation,' last Tuesday. PHEASANT COLONIES. A local settler is making an application for young pheasants as advertised iby the W, A. Society for distribution. GRASS SEED. ■Some of the settlers are busy with their brown top fields, gathering the seed 'by the aid of a stripper. Paapalum and cockssfocft seed have atso been 'threshed on some holdings. FRUIT AND SUGAR. Fruit da fairly plentiful,_juid the housewives only wish that th e sugar was available in reasonable quantities an place of in 4 lb lots, and very often that has to do for two weeks, as a result of ithg settler not going in oftener. Picture a family of six adults under these circumstances- - ; whjjch is quite common—resorting to golden syrup for sweetening purposes. It as hoped that liberal allowances will be made to the jam-aniakeifc outside of the trade from the shipment of sugar albout to arrive in the Dominion from Sydney for jam-making purposes.
