PREFERENTIAL PROCESS.

GOVERNMENT'S RETURN

EXPECTED,

(Received 9.15 a.m.)

MELBOURNE, This Day,

The voting in the State elections proceeded steadily throughout yesterday. Keen interest was taken in the local option poll. As the elections are on the preferential system the counting of the votes will be a slow process. No reliable figures were available up to a very late hour and it will be days before finality is reached on

either the political or liquor issues. The Government's return to power is considered certain. —A. and N.Z.
