On Wednesday, at our weekly Westfield fat stock market our beef pens contained 341 head, com/prising 226 steers 10/9 cow® and heifers , , and o bulls. The quality generally was first-class, and there were several extra heavy steers included in the entry. The demand was less keen, and in consequence values were easier. Ox, extra choice lo £3 3/, choice and prime £2 17/ to £3, ordinary and plain £2 12/ to £2 16/; rough beef, £1 15/ to £2; cow and heifer beef £2 5/ to M 14/ per 1001b. Extra Heavy prime -steers ranged in price from £35 ito £42; three steers from Mr D. Alison, Waipu, averaged £37 11/9; 'heavy prime steers, £24 to £26; lighter prime £19 to £23; lLjht prime £15 to £18, unfinished £12 to £14 10/; 'heavy prime cows £15 to £17 17/6; lighter .prime £12 to £14 10/; other cows £6 to £11 10/. Sheep were penned in more than average numbers. There was only a fair demand for sheep in their "wool, and values were , again slightly easier. The few pens iof shorn sheep sold well. Heavy prinig woolly wethers £2 3/ to £2 '6/6 (no extra heavy wethesra penned), shorn £1 18/ to £2 2/; medium to heavy prime woolly wethers £1 18/ to £2 2/6; shorn £1 14/6 to £1 17/6; unfinished woolly wethers £1 13/ to £1 15/; extra heavy prime woolly ewes £1 16/ to £1 19/; shorn £1 10/ to £1 13/5; lighter prime woolly ewes £1 12/ to £1 15/; other woolly ewes £1 3/ to £1 10/ 1794 sold).
The 70 spring lambs penned were insufficient for requirements, with the result that there was a sharp rise in prices. Beat heavy £2 5/ to £2 8/; lighter £1 18/ to £2 4/; others £1 11/6 to £1 17/.
Pig's were yarded in average numbers. Ther c was a -steady demand for fat pigs, with a decline in values. Store pigs were firm at late quotations. Choppers, £7 to £9 4/; medium to heavy baconers, £6 15/ to £7 9/ (no extra heavy ibaconers yarded); light baconers £6 to £6 12/6; heuvy porkers, £5 t 0 £5 15/; medium porkers, £4 to to £4 -15/; light porkers £3 to £3 15/; store pigs, £3 to £3 11/; slips, £2 10/ to £2 19/; weanere 1 11/ to £2 7/<6 (sold 249).
Fat and young calves again came forward in large numbers, the demand and values being on a par with last week. Runners made from £7 to £15 15/ for an extra choice 11----months-old steer; heavy vealers £5 10/ to £6 18/; medium £4 to £5 0/; light £2 7/6 to £3 14/; small £1 1/ to 2 4/; fresh dropped II to £1 (187 sold).
