BUTTER, CHEivSE, ETC. WELLINGTON, This Day. The High Commissioner's cablegram, dated London, October 16, is us follows :-— Moat. —English, in moderate supply, Average prices are: Beef, Is •id; mutton, Is 9d; lamb, 2s per lb. Best quality Scotch mutton averaged Is lid and lamb 2s Id per lb. New Zealand'mutton and lamb, in good demand at maximum prices. Butter. —The average price of English is £23 12s per cwt, with very limiteel supply.- Irish quotations range up to £25 5s per cwt (equal to for English 4 2sJd and for Irish 4s Gd per lb).

Cheese. —Business in English is dull up to £9 6s per cwt (Is 8d per lb). The spot price for Canadian white is £7 18s to £8 2/ (Is 5d to Is 6_d per lb), and for coloured from £8 2s to £8 6s per cwt. (Is s_d to Is s£d per lb); ci.f. price, £7 19s to £8 Is per cwt (Is 5d to Is s£d per lb).

Hemp.—The Manila market is dull. Buyers are holding back and prices are lowei'j "J" grade is now quoted at £67 for July-September and OctoberDecember shipments. The New Zealand market is firmer, and prices are stiffening. Good business has been done. High points October-December

shipment sold at £55 to £56 per ton; fair October-December shipment, from £52 10s to £53 15s per ton. Sellers quote high points on spot at £66; fair, £54; October-December shipment £56 10s and £54 per ton respectively..

Wool. —The Bradford market continues dull and depressed, owing to tho absence of new business, and no indication of improvement. Tops for immediate delivery are quoted nominally at:—Sixty-fours, 6b's 6d; fifty-sixes, 4s lOd; forties, Is lid per lb. At the Hull Government public sales this week f>6oo bales of colonial wool were offered, and less than 2000 were sold. Merinos were par to 5 per cent, below London closing values. Crossbreds were practically all withdrawn.
