COAL PRODUCTION PER MINER.

A comparative statement furnished to the House of Representatives concerning the number of men employed in the c ° a l mines of N.Z. during the years 1917, 1918, and 1919, and the average quantity of coal produced per man below ground during the same "years is as follows:

In 1917, 1090 men were employed abov c ground and 2893 below; in 1918, 1102 above and 2892 below; and in 1919, 1095 above and 2849 below. In 1917 the average quantity of coal P er person empioyed below ground was 715 tons; in 1918, 703 tons; and in 1919, 648 tons.

Th number of coal miners and the number of gold miners employed during the year 1919 were 3944 and 2201, respectively. Gold miners in receipt of pensions on account of pneumoconiosis afc present number 210; coal miners, 8; miners' widows, 219.
