HIKURANGI

TOWN BOARD'S MEETING

A special meeting of the Hikurangi Town Board was held on Tuesday evening; present—Comiissioners Ed. Swarm (chairman), R. C. Cherrae, FMcßeth, K. Macßeth, and J. Thompson.

Hikurangi Valley Road.—Correspondence was received from the Whangarei County Council and the Minister of Mines in connection with damages and repairs to roads by coal carting.

It was agreed to accept an allocation for a refund of £92 15s spent toy the Town Board in repairing Valley road and also for an additional grant of £Bi2 10s for further metalling and repairs, the board undertaking not to proceed with the proposal to require coal lessees to make a contribution or

pay a royalty towards Ithe cost of

keeping roads in repair during the year from October 1, 1920.

It was resolved that the Board undertake to carry out the nece&sary works in repairing and metalling Valley road Ito the amount of the additional grant allocated, as it was considered- more satisfactory for each local body's engineer to Ibe responsible for grant expenditure in its own districts.

It was further resolved to point out to the County Cuneil that the Board had already expended £92 Life in repairing Valley road some time ago, and that the Council was under a misapprehension in supposing only £50 had been spent.

Water Supply for Mines'.—The manager of Wilson's Colliery Company, Ltd., 'applied for a water supply service of 5000 gallons daily'for the new mines at Waro, and also for permission to construct a drain froim the new dip to the stream at the foot of the hill.

It was resolved on the motion of Com'mfesioner K. Macßeth, seconded by the chairman, that both applications be granted, the Water to be supplied by meter and the cost of The meter fborne by the company. Sanitation Service.—Two tenders were received for the performance of sanitation service, but the Board decided to hold the matter over until the next meeting to enable at to secure a suitable depot. Poundkeeper—No applications were received for the position of poundkeeper, and it was resolved mot to relieve the present poundkeeper from his duties while ithe pound contained stock which had not been dealt with by the poundkeeper. Hikurangi-Whakapara Road.—lt was agreed (that the Board's engineer be instructed to notify tfhe contractor .to proceed with all haste with his contraclt for metalling and formation works on the main road beyond Howie's Hill.

Claim for Wages.—lt was resolved that a claim for supply of metal be referred to the surfaceman for his certificate.

Finances.—The Board discussed the question of ilt s finances and agreed not to undertake further new works or services until more of its rate "revenue had Ibeen received. Accounts for £120 8s 4d were passed for payment.
