Bacburn, the author of "Mountaineering Art," 1 and Crawford, both members of the Alpine Club of London,-, "returned from Darjeeling after an attempt" to explore Kinchinjanga*. They attacked Kinchinjanga from 'the south-west, exploring the glaciers to reach the -summit from this direction. They found the task impossible, no greater height than 20,000 feet being attained.
