PERSONAL NOTES

Mr and Mrs H. Hilford have recently disposed of their property in this district, and have left to take nip residence in the locality of Mairtown. Just previous to their departure at the end of last week a friendly tfarewell "At Home" gathering was held at the residence of Colonel MciCarroll, where albout thirty ladies assembled in honour of the departing guests. The reception was held in the dining and drawing rooms, which are eminently commodious, beting connected with folding doors. The rooms were made very attractive with a varied and effective display of dainty spring flowers. Dur- ( ing the afternoon a number of very enjoyable musical items were rendered,, consisting of piano solos and duets by Miss Matthews and Miss Jessie Lee," and songs by Mrs Piper. Mrs J. Parkins and Miss Lewis. Following a dainty afternoon tea ;Mrs McCarroll ably expressed the hearty good wishes of Mr and Mrs Hilford's friends and neighbours, and presented each of the guests with a parting souvenir of friendly esteem and good wishes for their future welfare.. . Miss Millington's large circle of friends were pleased to see her amongst them again, on her recent yisit to relatives in this district, where sh e was so well and widely -known previous to her taking up residence at the Thames. A very enjoyable little farewell dance was held on the 25th inst. at the residence of Mr and Mrs J. I. -Wilson, • the guest of honour being on this occasion Miss Gladys Brent, who is leaving the district to reside with her eldest brother, Mr Aubrey Brent at Rarotonga, Cook Islands. The genial host and hostess with their well-known ability and tact gave the young friends assembled a very happy time, and hearty good wishes were tendered. Just previous to dispersal the company joined hands and sang "Auld Lang- Syne," wishing jfche young traveller bon voyage and a happy future.
