BELFAST OUTBREAK.
FREE FIGHTS AND PILLAGE
MILITARY OVERAWE MOB
(Received 8.55 a.m.)
LONDON, July 22
There have been serious disturbances in the Belfast shipping yards. The Unionist workers held meetings and resolved to boycott the Sinn Feiners and refuse to work with them.
Free fights followed. A number of persons were thrown into the river and roughly handled. Some were taken to hospital, though there are no serious cases.
The troops were called out in the evening, when Sinn Fein crowds were sacking the spirit shops in Belfast. The troops fired over the heads of the crowd, which thereupon dispersed.—A. and N.Z.
