TOTALISATOR PERMITS.

A MASTERTON APPLICATION,
WELLINGTON, June 21
A request for a totalisator permit for the Masterton Trotting Club was made to the Minister of Internal Affairs (Hon. G. J. Anderson) by a deputation from the committee of the club. Mr G. R. Sykes introduced the deputation
It was pointed out in support of the application that the nearest trotting meeting was at Greytown, 25 miles distant, and the next at Palmerston, 80 miles distant. The Masterton Eacing Club were prepared ~o give to the new Trotting Club full uso of the course and grounds for the meeting. The population of Masterton was 7000, and as indicating the demand in the town and district |or the sport ft trottimg, it was mentioned that the new club had a membership of 500.
The Minister said that he was anxious to get all the information he could in regard to racing, for, he said, the administration of it from his point of view was difficult. He did not want to see racing injured, and' he wanted to consider the best way of dealing with this and similar applications in the in' tercstH of all classes. He was not in a position to give a definite reply to the request. He intended to submit to Cabinet the whole nrnttt r of ihe issue of totalisator permits, and tl.io representations of the Masterton Club would receive consideration with the other applications which ha>l already been received by the Department.
