A SERIOUS CHARGE.
BAIL REFUSED
WELLINGTON, This Day.
Charles Eric Walden, a young man, made his appearance in the Magistrate's Court in answer to a charge of assaulting Gladys Lennon, so as to cause her actual bodily harm.
Sub-Inspector Emerson said that the defendant had only been arrested the previous evening, and , the; police desired a remand in order to make further
inquiries.
Mr G. W-. Mollish, who" appeared for the accused/applied fo* , biiil. He said that Walderi was unable to "obtain surelie's, but hijfd'a sum of T £l6o r which was in the hands of the Public Trustee.
►Sub-Inspector Emerson said he would oppose the granting of bail at the present time. The defendant was not known to the police, and it was probable that, other charges would be laid against him. On Thursday evening Walden was discovered struggling with a young woman, and was held until the arrival of the police.
Mr E. Pago, S.M., wtij was on the bench, granted a remand for a w r eck, and refused, the application for bail.
