KAMO V.M.C.A.
ENTERTAINMENT SERIES,
One of the most enjoyable entertainmens yet held in the Y.M.CA. marquee nt the springs was given on Thursday evening by the members and friends of the Whangarei Pipe Band.
Quite a number of visitors were present and the marquee was packed to the entrance. Mr Carruth, president of the band, occupied the chair, and the subpoincd items were rende:ed, each one evoking loud applause from the listeners, who many times insisted on encores.
Programme: Selection, "Barren Rocks of Aden," Pipe Band; duet, "Annie Laurie," Nurse Seanlon and Mrs Warnc; song, "Skipper of St, Ives," encore Little Irish Girl," Prof. Owen; dance, Highland Fling, Mjss Kerr and Master Bain McDonald, encored; song, <<The Song of-the Emigrant," Mrs Calder; song, "The Reason Hpq 1 Wear the Kilt," euoore, (, Stop Yer Ticklin' Jock," Piper Cochrane; song, "Absent," Nurse Seanlon; bagpipe solo, "Blue Bonnets," encore, "The Cotton Spinners," Piper Finlayson; duet, "Tho Crpokit Bawbee," encore, "Asthore," Mr and Mrs Calder; song, ''The Flight of Ages," encore, "Coming Thro' the Rye,' Mrs Wamo; monologue, "Tho Man with the Single Hair," encore, "Oh, Memory," Prof. Owen; dance, Shentriubhs, encore, Sword Dance," Master Bain McDonald; song, "Marie, My Girl," encore, "They're Far, Far Awa' ", Mr Calmer; song, "The Lass o' R_llicrankioi" encore, "I Loo a Laseie," Piper Cochrane; selection, "The Earl of Mansfield," Pipe Band. Mr Pearce was a very efficient accompanist, and Piper McDonald played for the dancers.
At the completion of tho programme the Y.M.CA. secretary, on behalf of the sisters and patients, thanked the band for providing such an excellent entertainment.
Mr Carruth, the president, in responding expressed surprise at finding the accommodation so comfortable, and assured the secretary the Whangarei Pipe Band would be only too delighted to oblige on some future occasion. The chairman also thanked the sisters and the Y.M.CA. for the dainty supper, which was passed round by the patients.
The evening was concluded by the singing of "Auld Lang Syne" the National Anthem.
