BILLIARDS.

AMAITEUR 'CHAMPIONSHIPS,

TO BE DECIDED,

For years past there has been di* vers'ity of opinion regarding a solution to the question of who is the best aateur billiard player in the district. To get a decision upon the point, Mr Mcßetlh, proprietor of the CM) Billiard roams, has arranged a straight-out competition to take place on his tables, "beginning on Wednesday next,. and has received entries from twenty aspirants to premier honours. Amongst them appear to ibe all players whose .names usually crop up when the subject is discussed, and, although any other players who are sufficiently expert and who consider themselves entitled to play "may enter, it seems that the results of the tournament will give a definite answer to players and others interested. The heats will 'be 300 up, the semi-finals 400 and the final 500 up. Mr Mcßeth has decided to make no charge for admission, and hie motive in promoting the competition and donating a trophy for it is purely to obtain a solution to a vexed question. The competition heats will begin in Mac's Cluib Rooms on Wednesday evening next.
