ON MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE,

HOTEL CONDUCT CENSURED,

AUCKLAND, This Day,

The trial of Hona Herewini, charged with the manslaughter of Mci Homi Hui at Awanui, was concluded before Judge Chapman yesterday. After a retirement of two hours the jury returned with a verdict of guilty, with a strong recommendation to mercy. A rider was added stating that the amount of drinking which apparently was permitted among natives at the Awanui Hotel was deserving of censure. The judge deferred sentence. —Press Assn.
