TRADE WITH RUSSIA.

A BRITISH STIPULATION

PRIOR TO RESUMPTION

(Received 9.20 a.m.)

LONDON, June 1

It is understood that the British Government will insist on the release of British prisoners in Russia before assenting to resumption of trade.

To-day's meeting between M. Karaasin and th© British Ministers dealt with only general trade proposals, not with any recognition, the object being to discover what Russia needed and what she was alble to export. It was made clear that trade could not be conducted simultaneously with the Red propaganda.—A. and N.Z. and Reuter.
