FOOTBALL.
FIRST MATCHES TO-MORROW
With marked prospects of a better season ahead than any in the history of Whangarei, it is probable that the sporting public will be less lethargic than usual at the beginning of a season, and that there will be a good attendance of spectators at the senior matches ito be decided, to-morrow afternoon.
At Kensington Park, Maungakaramea, last year's champions, will be matched against the local United B t ( 'am and a good game should result, although, as many changes of personnel have taken place since last season, it is a matter of conjecture as to the outcome. That the game will be interesting as an-indication of the trend or honours in the future may be presumed with safety.
At Hikurangi, the Kamo club-: fifteen will meet the local team, an:l, as {both have been practising for some time past, a good exhibition is anticipated. There is n ew blood both combinations, and assessment of its worth will be interesting.
