GOYERNOR\S ACCOCNT. AGITATORS MAKING MISCHIEF. WELLINGTON. Feb. in. An official stat-jnieni concerning the iivdustrial 1 rouble in Fiji has been received by the Government from the Governor of the colony. tt icads as follows: — "All Indian workers still our. ;n Suva, Rewa .and South Coast centre.-. They put forward no demands before striking, and it was only late last week that they submitted a statement of grievances by deputation to me. 1 thereupon appointed commission to inquire into whole question of wages and high cost of living, which is stated to be cause of trouble. Commission has teen welcomed by public generally and by Indians, who are selecting representatives to give evidence and preparing statements. Agitators have been trying to extend strike to sugar centres on north coast and west coast, but yesterday Colonial Sugar Refining Company made substantial offer of increased wages and price for cane to Indian employees and growers. I have not yet heard whether these have been accepted. Large numbers of Indians at Suva and Rewa are out unwillingly, but the others, encouraged by agitators, are preventing them from resuming work by intimidation." —Press Assn.
