THE WAIKATO POSITION.
HAMILTON, Feb. 6. Many settlers in country districts of Waikato are hesitating to guarantee to become users of olectric current under the newly appointed power boards until they see a definite list of charges. So far the Government has made no pronouncement in regard to the cost to consumers, and this is the chief cause of the decision as farmers who intend io put in additional milking plant for next season, are undecided whether to instal oil engines or motors. Mr Young, M.P., has for some time been urging the Government to fix charges, and to-day, in reply to a further wire fence by him, he received the following telegram from the Minister of Public Works:—"As soon as members of the Power Board in Waikato have ejected, I intend to convene a meeting to fix rates and allocate to each board its share of power available."
