Chicago Institute of American Packers announces (hat Ihe demoralisation of the sterling exchange has resulted in :i large decrease in European purchases of American merits, especially during January, when purchases ceased almost wholly. A message from Winnipeg states that the Boar<l of Trade, the Bankers' Association, wholesale merchants, and women's organisations have unanimous]y resolved to couse buying American goods in order to check the disastrous discount of Canadian "paper", and to buy British good instead. —A. and N.Z.
