SLAUGHTERMEN DISCONTINUE.
AUCKLAND, This Day. Trouble occurred at thi Southdown Freezing Works yesterday, when 80 mutton slaughtermen went out on strike. Tho men were at work on Saturday, but it is understood that when they received their pay at knocking off time they were not satisfied with the amount received. The men held a meeting yesterday morning, Mr W. E. Sirl, secretary of the union, attending. The executive of the Slaughtermen's Union met in the afternoon and as a result insist that tho men return to work. The strike is an individual one and was not authorised by tho union, WAIHI, This Day. A fresh industrial agreement is being sought by the Ohinemuri Mines and Batteries Union, and delegates representing the union have been appointed to wait upon the mine owners. It is understood that substautial rises in wages will be asked for owing to tho high cost of living.—Press Assn.
