STEAMER ON FIRE.
MUCH CARGO DAMAGED,
NAPIER, This Day.
A fire discovered at 11.30 last night in the for e hold of the Union Company's steamer Te Anau, berthed at the breakwater. The brigade pumped a large quantity of water into the hold and the flames were extinguished by one o'clock in the morning. Considerable damage was done to the cargo by the water. The fire was caused by th e ignition of matche s stored in 'tween decks next the bilge.—Press Assn,
