BIG BUILDING SCHEME.
RAILWAY DEPARTMENT UN-
DERTAKING
WORKSHOPS AND DWELLINCS,
HAMILTON, Jan. 16
The erection of large workshops and 50 dwellings for railway workers at Frankton is contemplated by the Railway Department at an early date t if the Hamilton Borough Council can supply sufficient electric current for the Department's requirements.
A letter was received from the Department at last night's meeting of the council stating that the Department would undertake to build the wor-kshops at Frankton and equip them with machinery driven by electric current supplied by the council, if a definite undertaking was to supply the power.
It was further stated that the shops would necessitate the erection of a considerable number of houses for workmen—probably about 50, of five rooms each. Electric light would also be required for these. The erection of the shops would be started once the question of power was settled. It was anticipated that they would take at least three months to erect and equip.
The council decided to hold a special meeting next week to discuss the question of buying extra plant to supply the current required.
