Mr C. M. Inne.s, of the "Herald," who has b< en spending part of his vacation in Whangarei returned to Auckland by the Manaia to-day.
Major Conlan, well-known in the North as the legal representative of the Crown in connection with the Military service BoardSj passed through Whangarei to-day, after spending his Christmas vacation in Russell. The major has now resumed the practice of hig profession in Auckland.
Lieut. D. Manners left Whangarei to-day for Hawera, to which district he has been transferred as adjutant to the 2nd Mounted Regiment. Prior to the war, Lieut. Manners, who saw lengthy active service in Palestine, was Sergt.-Major of the 11th North Auckland Mounteds and was on the permanent Territorial Staff.
Hockey enthusiasts of Whangarei and district will regret to learn of the departure from the town of Mill. R. Monkhouse, the Hockey Association's energetic secretary. Last evening Mr Hodgson, chairman of th e management committee on of tlv association, presented Mr Monkhouse with a silver cake- dish, as a token of the e steem in which he was h<M, and fllso as a suitable wedding present.
