VOLCANIC IRELAND

ANTIPATHY TO POLICE

BARRACKS ASSAILED

IN DETERMINED STRENGTH

(Received 8 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 8

Fifty armed men attacked the Drumllsh police barracks in County Longford during tin- night. The five defenders repulsed the attack until the military arrived in motor cars. Another determined attack, lasting two hours, was made on the Roundstone barracks in County Gallway, in which two hundred Sinn Feiners were engaged. The police made a vigorous defence, and after the Sinn Feiners had been dispersed pursued and captured two attackers. Owing to marauding in Dublin, business men are employing civil patrols to protect their premises and properties.—A. and N.Z.
