BRISBANE, Jan. S

The appointment of Mr Lennon, a* member of the Labour Party, as Lieu-tenant-Governor of Queensland, produced a scene, in the Assembly.

Mr Barnes, ex-Treasurer, expressed strong disapproval, on the ground that Mr Lennon had endorsed disloyal utterances made by the Cabinet, Mr Barnes adding: "And now, forsooth, he is thrown upon the State as Lieuten-ant-Governor on the recommendation of this Government."

The Chairman ordered Mr Barnes to withdraw the words, but he refused, -was thereupon suspended, and left tho House amid cries of protest against the stifling of free speech. — A. and N.Z.
