RAILWAYS CRUX.
MR THOMAS HOPEFUL
A CONCILIATORY SPIRIT
STRIKE THE LAST RESORT
(R< eeived 8 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 7
Mr Thomas, speaking at Kettering said that the press expressed an opin ion adverse t o the railwaymen on th< wages proposal!.
The press and the public were alarmed at the prospect of another strike, but the leaders would ro to Wednesday's meeting with a full
sense of responsibility. A strike mils' always be the ''last resort.
If the other side discussd the question in the same spirit, a satisfactory settlement was certain. —A. and N.Z.
