LONDON, Dec. 20. It is stated in official circles that the Irish Government ha 3 provisionally arranged to suspend General Byrne the popular head of the Irish Constabulary, who was opposed to some recent measures emanating from the ruling faction at Dublin Castle. -The constabulary strongly lesent his removal. Times. In the House of Commons, before Mr T. P. O'Connor (Nationalist member for the Scotland Division of Liverpool) moved the adjournment of the House to call attention to ttyi suppression of "Freeman's Journal," Mr lan Macpherson (Chief Secretary for Ireland) said that the journal had served a writ on the Government, and therefore the matter was sub judice. Mr O'Connor defended the articles for which the journal was suppressed. , On c condemned the enlistment of Civil servants as special constables. Another declared that crime in Ireland was England's greatest asset. Mr O'Connor said that there.was evidence of a militarist plot to provoke Ireland to outrage and to drown Home Rule in blood. The Irish Government was creating crime. Mr W. Adamson (chairman of the Labour party) said that the Labour party believed that the frequency of repressive measures was closely connected with the prevalence of crime in Ireland. > Mr Denis Henry (Unionist member for Londonderry) said that the articles in "Freeman's Journal" had been long tolerated, but they had become too objectionable.
