ENTRIES COMING IN.
Launch and yacht owners locally have been circularised by the secretary of the Regatta Association asking them to enter their craft in the races provided on the programme of the New Year's Day regatta, and the appeal to them as sportsmen to assist the promoters in obtaining large entries is already meeting with a fair measure of favourable response.
All boats are in good running order this year and, although many of them have few claims to be considered as racing craft in the ordinary sense of the word, it is evident that their owners have realised that, with the aid of the data provided by the special entry forms being used this year, a capable handicappcr will be able to assess the speed of competitors sufficiently near tho mark to provide good races.
" The association has done all in its power to provide incentive to boatowners to compete, but it does not disguise the fact that it relies largely upon the interest and enthusiasm of local sportsmen to make the regatta the unprecedented success which is anticipated, and it is incumbent upon the latter to demonstrate that the reliance was well placed.
