DORIDANT EXCULPATED
HONOURABLE DISCHARGE GIVEN. WELLINGTON This Day. In.September of last*year Corporal Doridant was tried 'before a Courtmartial consisting of Lieut. Colonel Neave and Major s Bevan and Hollis, on a charge of knowingly making a false accusation against Captain Chas. Gray, Assistant Provost-Mar-ehal for Wellington that Gray had been drunk on August Ist, 1918, while on duty. Doridant owned a launch which was hired for patrol work, and he was put in charge. Grey went out with him, and in consequence , of certain incidents the charge was made, The Court-martial convicted Doridant and gave him 28 days' de-' tention. There were other circumstances about the way in which Doridant was treated while awaiting trial that had an unpleasant flavour. Doridant pressed for a rehearing since, which was refused but now it is announced that the Defence Department has agreed to remove his conviction from the file, to grant Doridant an honourable discharge, and to hand him arrears of pay, amounting to £196. Gray left the servic c of the Defense Department last year, and it is stated that he will be now sent out of New Zealand.-—Press Assn.
