SYRIA'S FUTURE.
IN EMIR FEISUL'S HANDS. v BRITISH WITHDRAWAL. (Received 10.35 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 21. Emir Feisul has gon e to Paris, at M. Clemenceau's invitation, to discuss the Syrian question. The Anglo-French agreement provides that the British shall withdraw from the Arab zone on November 1, when the country will be handed ove r to Emir Feisul, but French garrisons will remain at Beyrout and in the Lebanon, also in the littoral districts.
Emir Feisul fears that the alterations in the status quo inaugurated by Viscount Allenby will result in trouble. He protests against evacuation by the British, who ar e regarded £s the friends of Islam. He urges that the question of evacuation be submitted to an Allied military commission.—A. and N.Z.
