WHANGAREI-WAIPU-MAUNG-ATUROTO MOTOR SERVICE.

Further evidence of local enterprise is evinced in the announcement by Mr J. *Durham in to-day's paper that it is his intention to start on October 13th a regular motor service between Whangjarei, Waipu, and Maungaturoto.

The roads of course, are not of the best and it is to hoped that the County Council will do whatever patching i 3 necessary to encourage this service and thus permit the public to travel from district to district quickly and with the least possible inconvenience.

It is also to be hoped that liberal patronage will he accorded Mr Durham as he cannot be expected to keep the run going if it should not pay him to do so. However, he intends giving it a good trial for two months and as above stated, if liberal support is given the public may depend upon having a continuous, regular and satisfactory service at least during the summer months.

The advertisement shows that he will leave Whangarei each day at 4 p.m. and passengers wishing to catch the early train at Maungaturoto .on Saturday mornings can do so and will be able to return to Maungaturoto the same evening.

A good opportunity presents itself now to establish a daily mailing service between the districts mentioned, including other districts f*n route, and it is to be hoped that representations will be made to those in authority to have investigations made into this important question.

The service will make it convenient for the residents of the southern districts to arrive in Whangarei in the morning, returning in the afternoon.
