FOR ADVANCEMENT OF EDUCATION.

Support for the Auckland League for the advancement of education yas asked for by Miss B. Butler, principal of the Auckland Girl's Grammar School, who was iappointed by the League to place its aims and objects before ifhe association. She stated that the league was formed 12 months ago to interest the public generally in educational matters. A campaign had been undertaken to obtain the practical support of bodies such as the Chamber of Commerce, Industrial Association, and trades unions. It was felt that if the league had the support of the School Committees' Association, and through it the support of the parents, a distinct advance would have been made. Miss Butler referred to many reforms which were urgently needed, and emphasised that the support of public men and parents of scholars was necessary if the league was to succeed in securing any reform in educational methods.
