THE BAKERS' ART.

A splendid example of local onterparise and skill is in evidence in the handsome four-decker wedding cake which has just been made at Mr C. Swanberg's bakery and confectionery establishment in Water street, for Mr and Mrs Hayward, of Maungakaramea, for the occasion of the wedding of their daughter Freda, which takes place on October Ist. The cakes themselves were made by the bride's mother and the decorations were undertaken by Mr, Edgar late of a famous Glasgow firm, who is a returned soldier. Notable f ea- , tures of the fine piece of workmanship are the silver bell streamers, two silver swans, silver vase and bouquet, silver leaves and favors, porcelain pillars and hands, eleven lucky horse-shoe confections, star borders, festoons, chains and scrolls. The four-tier cake which is about three feet in height and thirteen inches in width at the base, weighs about 351bs in all and is a credit to local production. s The decorations themselves cost £4. 891
