The N.A. Farmers' Co-op., Ltd., re-

Hoggets brought 13/4 to £1 1/; empty ewes, £1 1/.

On Thursday, 28th August, we h4d cur monthly sale at Whangarei, when we yarded just under 500 head of cattle. Dairy cows and heifers came forward in large numbers and there was a noticeable improvement in the number of store cattle penned. We had a good yarding of beef, which realised from £17 to £20 17/6. Fat cows, £10 5/ to £13 2/C. Dairy cattle came forward in satisfactory numbers, and good sorts brought £10 5/ to £12 15/; backward sorts, £6 2/6 to £9 10/; 3| to 4year steers, £10 15/ to £12; '21-year steers, £7 11/ to £8; 1-year to 11----year steers, £4 5/ to £5 10/; calve", £1 10/; pen of ewes, £1 5/3 each.

"Truth is stronger than fiction" is occasionally confirmed from occurrences brought near. Thre e Auckland "boys" were on a transport when a huge wave swept all of them out to sea. Th c remarkable fact is that a succeeding wave carried one of them back again to the steamer, but on another deck. Th c soldier was hurt but slightly, while the other two were drowned. Needless to say, the experience bordering on the miraculous, has left a most lasting impression.
